What are same day crowns with CEREC?

In the past, fitting a crown could take numerous dental visits, with the crown being sent away to a laboratory for several weeks and a temporary crown being fitted. This often resulted in it being a lengthy and costly procedure. However, with CEREC technology, we can take a digital image of your tooth and produce a computerised 3D model within our dental practice, and within a matter of hours, resulting in you receiving your crown on the same day.

We can offer both Emax crowns (lithium disilicate) and Zirconia crowns, which are metal-free, strong, and biocompatible. We can assess what’s best for your needs in a consultation. Our all-ceramic crowns are designed to be exceptionally aesthetic, with a natural translucency that perfectly mimics real tooth enamel, meaning they blend beautifully with the rest of your teeth. They can be created on-site or in a dental lab.

Same-day porcelain crowns (CEREC) are especially popular with our patients. We are one of the very few practices to offer this advanced, high-tech service, providing you with a perfectly fitting crown on the same day. With CEREC, you only need to be numbed once and leave with your tooth fully restored. The whole design and production process can sometimes be completed within as little as 30 minutes. There is no need for temporary crowns, and you are left with a long-lasting, natural-looking, metal-free tooth.

What is involved in the same day crowns and CEREC process?

• Tooth preparation: We gently remove a thin layer of enamel, similar to traditional crowns, to prepare your tooth for the restoration.
• Digital impression: Instead of messy moulds, we use advanced digital technology to capture a precise 3D image of your tooth.
• 3D Design: CEREC software uses this digital image to create a detailed 3D model, allowing us to custom-design your crown to exact specifications.
• On-site milling: Once the design is perfect, it’s sent to our in-house milling machine, which crafts your new ceramic crown from a tooth-coloured block in as little as 30 minutes.
• Immediate placement: Your new restoration is then securely attached to your prepared tooth, allowing you to walk out with your beautiful new smile, usually in under two hours – no waiting weeks for a lab!

Looking after your same day crown

Your new same-day crown is designed for durability and longevity, but just like your natural teeth, it requires proper care to ensure it lasts for years to come. Maintain excellent oral hygiene by brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing daily, paying close attention to the area around your crown. While CEREC ceramic is incredibly strong, avoid chewing on extremely hard foods like ice or popcorn kernels, which could chip or fracture your dental restoration.
